There's been an appeal for people coming into the valley to bring pine-oil (like Pine Sol), as a thin layer of this apparently does a very good job of controling the odor and flies.
There's nothing like 120 degree heat to really get stuff "cooking" in those outhouses - becomes an exercise in how long you can hold your breath!
