The geology of Death Valley is wild! It’s like being in love. It gives you that wonderfully fantastic euphoric feeling that you don’t want to end. But then the reality of it hits you like a cast iron frying pan up side the head. And then the questions flood you mind. Something like “Is it really a pull-apart basin resulting from crustal extension responding to the northward migration of the Mendocino Triple Junction, or the remains of a ancient seafloor spreading center that has been accreted onto the North American Plate?” Or “Is it the future boundary alignment between the Pacific and North American plates due to eastward migration of the San Andreas fault zone.” Yep, it’s wild.
