I'm envious of you guys having a partner that also loves the solitude of the desert and being outdoors in general. Unfortunately my wife of 17 years prefers cities (reminds me of the TV show "Green Acres") hence most of my treks are solo which in some ways actually enhances the experience. As time goes on, she vacations in Europe with our daughter and I go to the desert. I just passed up a trip to Rome and Florence with her to spend part of my two precious weeks of vacation a year in DV. Now she wants to go to London. I hope she has a good time. I'm planning my next desert trek.
Oh yeah, in regard to the thread topic, I haven't had too many strange conversations, but last October just as I turned off Saline Valley towards the hot springs, 2 nice Jeeps passed me, both occupied by a man and a woman completely in the buff. I think they had shoes on. We all waved as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Come to think of it, it probably is the most natural thing in the world.
Another odd thing was one night under a full moon I was driving up Lippincott, and I passed a Volkswagen van parked at the switchback just before the steepest climb. Since it was around 11 at night I thought they were just camping but found out later that they had broken down and hadn't returned to get their broken van. I thought they must be crazy to try that road in that van. Must have been kind of fun until they smelled smoke.
