When we drove in there about 1-1/2 years ago, I recall quite a bit of sand for the first couple of miles out of Stovepipe. Then the road (really just the floor of the wash inside the canyon) was very rocky from the mouth of the canyon up to the Marble Canyon turn. Of course, road conditions change over time. Maybe someone here has been in there recently. When we were there we did not find any sign marking the Marble Canyon turn-off (just a well traveled track). The rental company probably has restrictions about being on that kind of road. Do it at your own risk. Art
