Though my original post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, the general geography was accurate. I'll be leaving the L.A. area, travelling (along with about 4.5 million other commuters) north to Baker. I'll then waive farewell to about 4.49999 Million of those commuters and then head into DV via DV Junction.

Just as a side note to those not in the L.A./Orange County area: The Santa Ana winds ("Santana" Winds to some of the old-timers) just blew into town for the first time this season. This generally has the net effect of flooding the Los Angeles/Orange County costal basin with the first breath of fresh air we residents breathe in a given calendar year. It also brings along with it the distinct, refreshing aroma and humidity level of the high desert region. There has always been a direct correlation between the arrival of these distinct desert winds, and my departure for Death Valley and the surrounding area. After 30 years or so, Pavlovian response has definitely taken over, and I find it difficult to simply hop in my car and point it north.

Soon enough. Hope you get a chance to stop by and say Hi.
