Dear Pugsly: In a perfect world all children would have loving parents and all the advantages they need to do well in life and school. Unfortunately, not every thing is as it should be. We are very fortunate, we have reference books in our home, a computer where our children could look up their homework they needed information on and then compile it on the computer and spell and grammer check it and then presto: a perfect paper. Some children do not have computers (although the child in question did e mail for help true), or even parents that are able or willing to run them to the local libraries. Of course, hoping the teacher hasn't assigned the very same project to ALL the children in the class so that all the pertinate books have already been checked out for the duration. In the little girls case, there is nothing like hearing first hand impressions of the "forests" in Death Valley by people that have been there and "done that". I agree that children need to be encouraged to do it themselves, but some need a little encouragement too. Thanks for the nice response Pugsly, I expected something rude. Oh, I am the Mom in the family, my husband is Chuck. Hope to see you out on the trail sometimes in DV.
