"About 3p on Friday April 4, I watched the ranger remove
the "Clothing Optional Use Area" signs from the warm
Springs area. I asked him why and he said that some
government lawyer said it was illegal for the NPS to post
such signs. Though originally intended as a warning to
people who might disapprove of nudity, they could be
interpreted as promoting public nudity. Since public nudity
is illegal in the US, the signs came down. He said that
the NPS has no plans to change their nudity policy in the
SV. Officially, they have no policy on the subject and it
would probably be unwise (for us) for them to ever
discuss it officially.. Sounds like "Don't ask, don't tell." A
"sign" of things to come?

I asked the ranger if I could have the sign, and he said
"No, it's already spoken for." Probably him. I asked if I
could take a picture of him with the sign and again he
said no.

So treasure those pictures you have of the sign. And don't
do anything to rile the rangers or the NPS regarding
nudity. They are holding all the cards. Let's just keep it
quiet and go about our business."

Question: What's the only thing worse than a lawyer?
Answer: A federal government lawyer!

Glad to hear that this hasn't started a ban on the C.O. status at the springs.
