We just finished a trip up there last weekend. Great weather, wildflowers in bloom everywhere, lots of evidence of the areas history to explore, wonderful views from Piute Mtn. Lookout, and a long winding road all the way down into Bodfish.

Don't totally depend upon the articles recommendations of it being a place that is litle known. The same weekend in June that we go every year, as we are going down the winding road to Bodfish, there is an Enduro race going on, and we have to be cautious not to hit the motorcyclists around the many blind curves. Also, one 4th of July we went up there expecting to get our "secret" camping spot, and found it already taken, as were most of the other camping spots in and around the area. French Meadow Fire Safe area, is also a favorite with the hunters in the spring and in the fall. In June we share the area with the hounds who's masters are taking them out to learn bear hunting skills, throughout the day and night. And in the fall, the entire mountain is full of deer hunters who are more interested in looking for deer than watching where they are going on the dirt road.
