The Newman cabin log had about thirty or so entries, most of them comments on the beauty of the place and the rugged road. Thanx to your daughter for the logbook! There was also a resident inside the cabin, a two foot long red mojave rattler! It didn't threaten me, just quietly slid out beneath the door to leave me the cabin.
I don't know what shape the road was in over memorial day, but I strongly advise anyone attempting it now to scout it out on a dirt bike (like I did) or a quad first! The comments in the logbooks backed up my opinion from thirty years of off roading in the area, namely that climbing Goler Wash at the moment requires a very small, light 4wd with a winch and very strong tires!
If you must see Goler, I would suggest coming down from the Striped Butte side, but take it slow when you get to the falls, and be aware that many people are spending their time changing tires!
