The old mining town of Ryan in DV used to have an excellent ride thru their mine on their narrow gage mine train. However, this was back in the 1930's and 1940's as I remember. The tours were stopped after a rider was severly injured doing something stupid during the tour.
Does anyone know if they will ever resume these tours? I have toured the Maggie mine at Calico and rode their old train around around the mine and settlement areas.(conventional size train, not for mine. Calico is a restored mining town by Walter Knott of Knott's Berry Farm and Ghost Town fame. Calico has a nice campground on their site. The Maggie mine is for the whole family, and has safe guided tours. They have animated mining operations in the mine. You are also subjected to a mine "explosion", the true history and "then-some"! My last visit was in the mid 1990's. Don
