Yes, don't stay at furnace creek, very overpriced, bad food. Least expensive is Beatty, we like nice and inexpensive The Exchange Club rooms the best, although the Stagecoach has a pool. Panamint does have the best food.

Try staying in the cooler parts of the park - check out the Charcoal kilns, road is gravelly but i have a camry, so you can do it...and do come in to the park via Wildrose Road, nice drive. Do the Stovepipe Wells dunes at sunset or at sunrise -- these are close To Beatty, as is the ghost town of Rhyolite, just outside the park, watching out for snakes of course. If you stay in Beatty you might also want to check out the funky old town of Goldfield, part ghost town, fun little cafe for breakfast/beer and some cool found art type artists around, its also a little cooler up there.

Enjoy!!
