Thanks for the information. If you drive some of the cement freeways in LA in the right kind of vehicle you'll be convinced that washboarding is occurring. I drove my daughter's Ford Diesel truck on the 405 and if it weren't for all the traffic I could almost believe I was on the road to the springs in Saline Valley.
Very sharp curves on desert dirt roads have much less washboarding than the straight sections, which would seem to confirm the Australian research, the assumption being that even desert rats slow down for curves (sharp).
