Hi everyone. I promised I would give a liitle report on my DV trip, July 4 weekend.
I'll just say, I fell in love with the place. I'm going back this weekend. Saw the northern part of the park (Eureka Dunes & the Ubehebe Crater) among other things. This time I'm going to explore the southern part.
I loved the heat, but did occasionally feel a little queasy when I was out walking. What helped me (and quickly) was I kept a container of Pedialyte in my cooler and drank that in addition to water. I also kept my food intake very minimal, and spread out little snacks, mostly fruit and some WASA crackers. Also had Gatorade. Since I was walking and hiking alot, I drank tons of water just before heading out, carried water with me, and filled up again when I got back to my vehicle. I don't mean to offend, but watch your urine output, if you are'nt going, or it's dark in color, drink, drink, drink. I think the pedialyte is very important because it helps replenish other stuff water doesn't have.
I truly love the place. In all my desert trips, DV is number 1. And all the questions I had about backcountry camping, well, it was so easy to get away from everyone and everthing with very little effort. It just meant sleeping in some rough terrian, which is fine by me.
Keith
