First time visiting, in the heat, I would wait until October.
Yes, we have lots of visitors and lots of heat related injuries too.
I have already "plugged" (IV) several people from Europe as with educating several more about heat exhaustion and why their kids or significant other are so red and flush. We have already had six related heat deaths (three in the park) this season.
“If you do come, drink water and than drink more water and than drink even more water. Drink tell you have to take a piss every 30 minutes and it is clear or has a slight straw like color in appearance. 90-100 degrees F – a min of one gallon of water per day should be consumed. 101-110 – two gallons. +111 – drink cool water consistently and stay in the shade. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated and it will take, on the average, ½ to 1 gallon of water to get you back up to speed. “
I had one incident where this lady (from Japan) collapsed because of heat exhaustion. Ask if she was drinking water, she said no. Asked why, did not want to use public rest rooms. She ended up going to the hospital for dehydration. I might add, she took two 1000ml of dextrose/saline solution IV bags in 30 minutes.
“Regardless of what some people say - save those electrolytes (Gatorade, sports drinks, etc.) for camp/room. Water is the only way to go. And leave the beer and sodas alone - period. Those should only be consumed when you’re back at camp/room and you’re not out in the heat AND wash them down with water!!! For every can of soda you drink, plan to lose 2 ½ cups of water for the digestion process. Beer – 3 cups of water!!!
If you must go out in the heat, wear long sleeve shirts, a loose hat that does not restrict blood flow around the head when your head swells a ¼ to ½ inch in size. Oh yes, your head will swell with the heat. Body is trying cool itself. Wear plenty of sunscreen and use common sense. “
I usually staring drinking massive amounts of water a week prior to any desert outing.
