Saline Valley Cell Phone

Many people seem to be interested in cell phones in Saline Valley. From the warm springs (Palm Spring), I had no trouble calling out to Arkansas and Arizona. BUT I have an ancient 3-watt analog "bag phone." Some might be too yong to know what a bag phone is. (I got it around 1994.) It's a big-ass phone with a big transformer thingy. You carry it in a bag like a purse--not too chic, I know. But it works great. It comes with a magnetic mount antenna for the top of your car; it only works on a 12-volt cigarette lighter (or similar). I nearly tossed it out years ago--glad I didn't. My carrier is Alltel. (Contrast this with those dinky cute, but wothless, cell phones that I bought about two months ago. They don't even work in my home city. And the alltel tech people in Little Rock confirmed that they never will. Take 'em back to Walmart, they said. So I did return them for a refund. Technology gone in reverse.) Long live the old bag phones!
