If the camp was near Teakettle Junction, it might be you are referring to the ghost camp of Ubehebe.

Ubehebe sits just over a small summit on the drainage into Saline Valley. There are some ruins, including a standing building.

Ubehebe was a copper camp, primary owner was Jack Salsberry, who also had interests in Greenwater. A railroad was planned from Ubehebe to Bonnie Clare (over on the road east from Scotty's Castle to US95). It was graded, but rails never laid. The roadbed eventually became the road you drive from Ubehebe Crater to the Racetrack.
