I stumbled upon a softcover book entitled "Hiking Death Valley - A Guide To Its Natural Wonders and Mining Past" by Michel Diconnet (ISBN:0-9659178-0-0; find it at Amazon.com, but beware - as of tonight there were only three; two used at $150. and $185. ??? and one new for $17.95) Read the reviews. This is an extensive and exhaustive study that virtually puts the reader on-site with it's vivid descriptions. It is written as a hiking guide, but the many, many topos include roads that access the trails. Also included are many photos of beautiful and secluded narrows accessible only on foot, as well as ones of many old mine sites. It even mentions areas where petroglyphs can be found with a determined effort. One of the reviews at Amazon.com mentions that the Park Rangers have complained about this book in that it reveals too many secrets. FYI - Heads Up!
