At a recent meeting with Steve Smith of BLM I asked about Burro Schmidt tunnel and the status of the structures. As of last saturday, there were no plans to destroy or remove anything. The BLM is aware that the location is known worldwide and destruction would be be met with negative results. Paul, while I respect your view and concern, it is lacking facts. The BLM cannot "send a contractor to give an estimate" as the contractor would not his backside from an artifact. There would need to be hundreds of hours of rersearch to determine what is an artifact, and what is not. I also repsect the opinion of many visitors to the area that are tired of all the filthy trash, food wrappers and beer bottles that litter the compound. The BLM is most likely tired of fielding complaints generated from the compound. If the current caretaker would simply pick up his trash and restore his own order, Iam sure the heat would die and he would be there until he is as old as Toni was. The entire area is a treasure, and Iam certain that dave can work it out to his benefit. The little guys of the desert have to work with the BLM, as we do not have the laws or funds to defeat otherwise.
