I saw your post on and would like to ask your advice, if you donít mind.

On Wed me and a friend leave for DV. We hope to do the route which goes from ubehebe crater, down to racetrack, over limpincott rd to saline valley. Camping at the springs overnight.

Then the next day leave the valley going over steele pass through the eureka dunes, to big pine rd, and heading back to the crater by taking the rd off cranckshaft junction back.

The real agony of the story is that I keep reading on the internet how absolutely treacherous limpincott and steele pass are and itís starting to scare me a little.

I have 4x4 jeep liberty, some off-roading experience but nothing extensive, a lot of common sense and consider myself pretty savvy and able to sum up weird situations (that is, I'm no tourist dummy), Iíve been in death valley before and know the risks and correct precautions (spare tire, extra water/fuel/food).

I need a serious opinion on how difficult this road is. A friend of mine did the route but in reverse order and managed on his 4x4 pickup truck, so I figure it cant be as horrendous as these web sites say. For example :

I just need a regular personís opinion who could tell it like it is.

Sorry to take up your time, but I would really appreciate even a quick response with anything you might have to add.
