In mid-'70s, I was a USAF Survival Instructor attached to the 3612 Combat Crew Training Squadron at Fairchild AFB, WA. The basic aircrew survival field training area was near Priest River, a small logging town in the Idaho panhandle near the Canadian border. Since this area was a hot spot for Bigfoot sightings, many survival course students would discuss the subject while in the field. When a class of students seemed particularly ripe, I would don a ghillie suit and tromp around the perimeter at night groaning loudly through my electric megaphone. This would usually scare the pants off of these flyboys, and we'd get quite a kick out of it. One class in particular, which included two Captains and one full bird Colonel, actually chased me for about a mile through the woods one night. A couple of times, they actually got a spot on me with their flashlights. The next morning, the bug-eyed students swore on the bible that they had encountered Bigfoot. The Colonel filed a formal field sighting report with his command back at his base when he returned after the school, and called for a special investigation into the matter. We laughed for years about that one. When you mix legend with the overactive mind, anything is possible.
