Linda Greene's and John Latschar's four volume work is one of the best documents on the history of Death Valley ever prepared. It was a monumental effort that is very well done indeed. It is available and can be found in some places, however, it is astonishing that it has never been made more easily available (like printed for sale to the general public and obtainable in the Visitor Center, or contracted out to a private printer.) Similarly, it seems that the Park Service downplays its existance - they don't want the average person to even know about it, or so it seems. And, when it suddenly becomes available on the net, they immediately take it off! Unbelievable! Every time I see Linda, I have to think about this set and the effort that went into it and the fact that she gets virtually no credit for it because it is largely unknown to most, including many with a real interest in Death Valley - all that work, and no credit, no money, and no respect. I can only conclude that the Park Service's position is part of their larger goal of dumbing down the public and obfuscating the knowledge they have.
