And how did Charlie Manson find his way to DV? Guess it must have been (Al Gores???)internet?
Granted, an increase in visitors anywhere includes an increase in "ahole" visitors as well. But its not caused by the internet. Its caused by a higher population of US citizens, owning a higher population of 4WD vehicles. For those of us that have been coming to the desert for a while, do you recall how many 4WD's you saw on, or off, the road in the 60's and 70's? Not a whole lot...
You cant have it both ways. If you want to limit the number of visitors to a specific area, your gonna have to limit (or prohibit)vehicle travel. Is taht what you are looking for? End of subject.
Look, people are gonna go where they can go; its the nature of the beast. The Native Americans were probably pitching the same bitch when Columbus showed up.
You want to know the real threat to US wilderness lands? TOO MANY DAMN PEOPLE - Go read this:
The ONLY solution? STOP immigration. Anyone out there realize how many people we have in the US already? And that the US, with around 5% of the world population, has at least 75% of the worlds immigrants moving here each year?
How long do you think you are gonna have some piece of dirt to camp on by yourself when you have a couple of billion people sharing the USA with you??? And having said all this, I too realize that its futile to hope for change, that our world is shrinking at an alarming rate, and that my grand children may never see real wilderness like I saw it. Guess all you can do is wait for a good nuclear war or a worldwide famine to resolve the issue...
