Dezdan, your explanation sounds good to me; I guess we could say that in the winter when we see that kind of pattern in a desert creek it can mean snow on the ground and in a way watch it melt.
Can anyone explain the behavior of some of the Panamint creeks in the summertime? The ones that will retreat up canyon a hundred feet or a hundred yards during the day and then return down canyon during the night For example: At sunrise the creek in Pleasant Canyon will sink into the bed of the creek at a certain point, as the day progresses the point at which the creeks ends will advance up the canyon and then return during the night to about where it was at dawn the previous morning.. As indicated above sometimes hundreds of feet.
