The best communication(most reliable) when on a death Valley Trek is when you leave the city, tell the wife"see ya later..talk in 4 days" One time in the Butte(Russells) there was a camper at Stellas and he yelled"DO YOU HAVE ANY HOT SAUCE?"Now that is great communication.
There is no service that is the best as they all change by the minute when in the back country. My "Sprint" service has been great recently, but "Verizon Nationwide" will not work on top of Mt. Whitney, and Sprint easily picks up a Los Angeles signal with no roam fees. On your next trip, dont call anybody...you will find that you will enjoy your trip much more.
