That road that heads south from upper South Park (just as one levels out from the climb up from Colter Springs) dead ends long before reaching Redlands. Our group was interested in it 1986 and we were told by the occupants of the Milling Site Cabin in upper South Park that the only way to get to Butte Valley from there was on foot.

I also agree that it is too bad that there is not a route. Close to the South Park look out site for Butte Valley, near the intersection of the road coming down from Roger's Pass via the crest of the Panamints, is an obvious natural grade route that could have been exploited in the good ole days. Would have put one near the base of
the Butte in the valley. But that did not occur for wheeled vehicles and obviously will not occur now.

Let's just keep the routes we have open!
