Jerry Freeman was a close friend of mine. He died of prostate cancer not long after he went into Area 51. He found the 1849 inscription and brought back pictures of Papoose Lake. I went with Jerry into the Atomic Bomb testing area twice (guided tours) in connection with our ’49er research.

Jerry was working on a book when he died. He is the fellow who found the bunk trunk. He said he would go to the grave believing William Robinson placed the trunk in the cave. I believe the hoaxter is still living and I wish he would come forward with the truth.

Jerry and I spent many hours together tracing the routes of the ’49ers. Toward the end of his live ‘we agreed to disagree with each other’ so we were able to keep our friendship to the end.
