Nice catch Harold! My first impression was that the sign said Granite Wells, but 55 (65?) miles in the northerly direction indicated could be Indian Wells. I blew up the sign a bit, and while it appears to say Granite Wells, I am not so sure anymore. The font used on the sign is an Arial like sans-serif typeface, and the letter 'G' in a sans-serif typeface would look something like this:

 G

Now, if you look at the blowup below, you will see that the first letter in the word is not resembling a 'G' as the typeface is heavier at top and bottom as if it were an 'I' in a serif typeface. Not to mention that O's and U's on the sign are well rounded, so why not the 'G'? Also, if the first letter were to be a 'G', notice the spacing between it and the what would appear to be an 'R' (second letter in the word). There is almost no room for that first letter to be a 'G' if that second letter is an 'R'! Maybe I am looking into this way to much!
