I've heard in casual conversation that rattlesnakes are rare (or nonexistant) in Saline Valley. Whoa--not true. In seven trips, I've seen six in these locations: about 20 feet from the "volcano" pool (honest) at the warm springs in plain sight among campers (it was relocated about two miles up the corridor); on the road from the Saline Valley county road to the warm springs (about half way to the springs, coiled under a bush); a short distance south of the warm springs (where the old outhouse used to be), not far from the peace sign southeast of the springs, one on an abandoned trail near the Snow Flake mine way up one of the canyons in the Inyos, and one at the mouth of McElvoy Canyon (a large canyon in the Inyos, easily seen from the springs). I can't tell you what type each was, but they all had rattles!
