Hons, when you refer to visiting the desert out west, you're talking about a very large part of the US. My sugestion would be to pick areas you're interseted in seeing and look up these sights on the internet. The link below is a good start for ghost towns. If you're looking to visit Death Valley then I suggest a stop at the vistor center at Furnace Creek for basic info on the area. Camping is available there as well. Your truck will be able to navigate most unpaved roads in the DV area but, as EK mentions, snow and rain can change this real fast. Plan your trip and enjoy. If you get more specific on locations to see, you’ll receive more specific responses.
