Andrew,

Why is it that it’s fine for someone to admonish the acts of a person that was not prepared for their trip to DV and died during their trip, but straight-forward comments to a person that is planning a trip is considered as “unpleasant in their contributions”? I don’t care to see someone die during their trip in DV as a result of being unprepared or making bad decisions. I’ve witnessed this and it’s not pleasant.

You’ve asked questions about road conditions, and passage over particular routes. You’re seeking answers that will may become obsolete shortly after they are said. Also, you’re asking for road current conditions to plan a November trip, and you want advice on when you should deviate from your plans. Conditions at that time can be snow, rain, wind, heat, etc. What you should do if you encounter conditions that do not coincide with your plans is your choice, but be prepared. This is all part the desert experience.

Now, with all the unpleasant stuff said, here’s what you should do. Plan your route and be prepared to change as you are driving that route. Take maps that are accurate. Take gear for cold weather, but be prepared for possible warm weather. Take plenty of water and food. You may end up staying longer than planned, and not by choice. Make plans that include having to deal with car problems. And let someone know where you’ll be, how long, and when you plan to return. Following these simple steps will make your trip more enjoyable.
