4th of July weekend was soooo hot the stupid automatic door locks on my camry wouldn't work when we stopped for ice cream at stovepipe and i thot we were gonna end up staying there. But i got them open again. That was an eye opener.

we ended up in the mountains at about 11,000 ft fishing (which was great), and i also left my car unlocked for the rest of the trip (i didn't see anybody coveting my bruce springsteen cds anyway).

Point is == summer is VERRRY hot and its wise to know your limitations -- although I'd thought at twilight we would've been able to hike out on the dunes, i was wrong and i just said oh well, we'll do something else.

I thot it was really hot even in the higher elevations, not dangerously hot, but a flat of water a day hot.

there was a story awhile back about a guy who trekked across the salt flats by badwater and ran out of water, died within, i believe 100 yeards of his car...
