Some good advice from all. Simple courtesy can go along way toward keeping the roads safe. Keeping to the right is a big one. Just from a safety aspect who wants to be passing cars within 4 or 5 feet at a combined speed of perhaps 160 mph? Especially when I have no idea who is holding onto the steering wheel of the other half of the equation. I don't drive fast, never haver, never will, I'm never in a hurry to get places, but I know some folks are so I make it a point to pull over (when it's safe) and let others pass especially when I know there's no passing lane for the next 5 miles. I don't see any need to make highway driving any more stressful than it is. Dirt roads are much more my speed anyway.

Also, I don't quite understand the concept of tailgating. When there's a line of cars going in the same direction with no passing lane, why do some people get right up on you as if you could do something to speed things up? I'm going the same speed as traffic and I usually follow the 2 second ruIe so what is to be gained by riding 10 feet behind me at 65 mph except increasing the potential for tragedy? They're not getting anywhere any faster. I think maybe too many people's sphere of awareness is only 1 car ahead regardless of the prevailing situation.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen people screaming down the road hell bent for somewhere, passing everyone in sight in rather unsafe fashion, only to pull into a gas station or store to see the offending driver filling up or hanging out drinking a soda etc.......

Oh well sorry to rant so long.

ciao
