Why was my answer so funny to you? Gas prices in California are nearly $3.00 a gallon in places and even in Pahrump, the gas price is nearly $2.50. You asked what the price was and that was the price I paid that morning and that was the "cheap" price. It may be higher now. Death Valley is remote and Xanterra controls the station at Furnace Creek. The price at Stovepipe is lower (but not that much lower) because the Park Service has control over the price set there and it tends to be lower because of that. Gas prices in California have been higher than most places around the country for years. It's called gouging!
