I would have to agree that it is probably better to go from Darwin. I went from the Springs to Darwin last October in my Subaru. It took much longer than I expected. You should allow at least two hours if you plan to stop along the way at all. It is easy to make a wrong turn or two which will make it longer as well. There are parts of the road going up from the Springs that are rough and narrow. I take it slow so have not had a problem yet with cutting tires and my car's admittedly low clearance. At one point you can turn right and go down to the end of a canyon where there was an old mine and home and a running stream. At another spot on the main road there is another old cabin with a stand of trees. I think they are ironwood and have pink flowers much of the year. I have not been there since this winter and spring so don't know the current conditions.
