My favorite route is loop trail that is off the Big Pine/DV road. I take the right fork to Papoose Flat via Andrews Mountain (which also has a turn off to Harkless Flat) then descend into Papoose Flat. Rather than continuing on to Badger Flat, I continue with the loop to Squaw Flat, then the old cabin at the Narrows, then I ascend the big hill winding back to the Big Pine/DV road where I started.

I like that direction because of the manner in which the route descends into Papoose Flat from the north. Coming in from Squaw Flat is less dramatic.
