I was on top of a Sierra peak yesterday at about 7900' when a pretty good thunderstorm rolled over us (snow, too). There are also a couple radio towers and support shacks up there. I know that when stuck in such a situation the best position (besides in my truck) would be crouching, with as little of my feet touching the ground as possible, away from trees, partway down the slope.
But what effect do the radio towers have? Do their lightning rods attract and ground out any local lightning strikes? Or do they make the area more dangerous?
