Have you ever considered walking the other way? I read the other posts and have concern with the gun toters that want to use 00 buck and a 12G defender or the 357 on a teensy reptile.
Hunting them is legal year round if you posess both a hunting and fishing license. If you do not use a weapon, you may harvest with a fishing license.
Instead of a Gatlin gun, you may shoo them into a gunny sack with a stick. There is no sonic boom and you wont accidently shoot yourself. If your UZI is not available, try a piece of twine with a slip knot. It is easy to hook them around the neck while standing several feet away with a broom stick. Doesnt sound as macho as blowing the thing to Hells Half acre with your WW2 thompson full auto.
Native americans use a branch with a fork, pin down their heads, then slide a machete down the shaft of the branch and decap them. Animal control uses the same method, only a golf club with a fork on the end.
For the best results, leave them alone. The 12 rats per year they eat will reduce your exposure to Hanta virus.
