Survived the flood

I've been visiting Death Valley for the last three years. I tried to find a place that was interesting and unique. Where else in the world can you experience such diverse scenery and 120 degrees? I've stayed at the FC Ranch every year and the staff is great. I usually stay two nights and my evening meal is a NY Steak at the 49'er Cafe. I was staying at the ranch last Saturday and Sunday. After dinner on Sunday, around 5:00p, I went for a walk, but noticed how dark the sky was. Looked like a big rain squall coming in from Stovepipe Wells. I was in room 224 when the rains came. Then the lights flickered on and off, about three times and then finally went out for good. I kept the windows closed to retain what cool air there was. The next morning I went out and saw the mess. Since I had a return flight from Las Vegas to Washington DC at 10:49PM Monday, I checked to see if the road to DV Junction was open. I was advised that all roads were closed, but that we would be escorted out at 10AM. I followed the escort west, to Lone Pine. What normally takes 2 hours to Vegas, took 7 hours via Barstow. What an experience I'll never forget. I'll be back next year for more DV adventures.
