From a backpacker's point of view, closing Surprise Canyon to groups of folks winching monster trucks up the falls is a very good idea. Maybe this activity is one reason why the area is not as pristine as the "eco kooks" say, and therefore gives them more ammunition, so to speak. It may be a lot of fun, but it's a trip-ruiner for hikers and a serious noise, air and water pollutant besides. I speak from experience on both sides of this coin.
