I say lose the running boards - they just get in the way on the dirt roads. I don't know about the particular spot you are talking about - I'm just talking about running boards - may be fine for city folk on the pavement - but no good on the back roads! I'm short 5'4" but I manage to get in with out them when I'm riding in a bigger vehicle. Heck, my Mom's too short for our Forerunner at 5'1" - but she manages without the running boards. If it's a real problem, get one of those little rubbermaid step stools and pack in the back of the truck - then the short people can get in. My Mom's such a good sport she gets in without the stool, too, even the few times I have tried to pack it for her, she didn't think it was necesary. Except of course, when I brought her home from the hospital after surgury.

We took my husband's boss in a big Bronco to the narrows in Goler Gulch in the El Pasos - he was driving a white OJ type Bronco with running boards for his wife. They were getting in the way and he just took them off right then and there. Get rid of the running boards if you have them and do dirt travel - they're more trouble than they are worth!
