In the ancient days they would not have had to wire ahead for reservations, they would have just asked the Shaman to create a little Shaman magic and it would have all been done...like the Oprah Rock..... Well, maybe they would have had to sacrifice a virgin to the Shaman when they asked him, but you get the idea... Do you suppose there are any big flat faced rocks in Death Valley that could have served as Oprah rocks? I don't particularly remember seeing any when I was there... and I don't remember the geologist on the field trip pointing any out to us.
