I'll second the Titus Canyon recommendation! If the miles and washboard don't bother you, you might also consider visiting the Racetrack. Stop at the visitor's center to get recommendations and current road conditions. Since this is your first visit, there is a lot that can be seen using the paved roads.

The weather is unlikely to be too much of a problem. The average annual rainfall in recent years has only been about 2.5". But this is a mild El Nino winter, so there might be a little higher chance. On the other hand, a little bit of rain can clear the dust and allow you to see a long way. Don't be surprised to have some wind. Take clothes for both cold and warm weather. With the storms coming through right now, some of the higher back roads might be closed and higher passes on the main roads can get snow. If there are any serious clouds in the mountains, I'd stay out of the narrow canyons and washes!

We'll be there from Dec. 25 or 26 through New Years with a large Group of Lazy Daze RVs in Sunset CG at Furnace Creek.
