Horsethief Canyon is probably passable by 2-wheel drive, although the approach up the washes of Eureka Valley was loose sand in places. Lack of traffic also made for a bit of route finding, but when in doubt, I chose the biggest wash. The washout bypass can be found by backtracking a bit from the orange cones. It runs maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile up Willow Wash before rejoining the main road. I'd recommend you visit this area again. There's a neat area of multi-colored badlands/hoodoo towers to the east side of Willow Wash.
