I've done it in a Tacoma, even with the stock BFG's Mall Trails :-)
I don't have GPS reads. Just head out to the Gravel Pit and turn North just before the pit. If you are on a good dirt road, you are on the right road. B.T., has explained the type of road you will find. If you really need GPS reads, I think you may be in a hurry, it may be faster to stick to the main roads around the north. Have fun, I'd like to add (if you are not in a hurry)the Slate Range is worth doing a little exploring in and taking the wrong road and back tracking in not a bad thing.
