Just when you think you have seen it all...

I am not even sure if I should post this..but, just when you think you have seen it all, you see something else...

Just got back from a week at Saline hot springs, 27-1 Jan 04. Cold, brrrrrrr...21 deg the first nite someone said...didnt see much sun, but, still had a nice visit...

However..did observe not one, but two 40' self contained motorhomes at the springs! The big mega bucks type with slide out living rooms etc! WHAT IDIOTS! pardon my emotion...

Did talk to the drivers/operators..took them 7 hours to enter via south pass..

Anyway, the ranger flew out on New Years Eve and warned or impending rain/bad weather, and the motorhome folks chose to leave at about 2-3 pm New Years Eve to avoid the weather, I think..

As it turns out, at about 7pm New Years Eve they get stuck on that long icy, uphill that never gets sun about two-thirds out...Coming out of a narrow hairpin, they did not have enough momentum to keep traction on that slippery slope....Not only are they stuck, they are BLOCKING THE ROAD...

We left New Years day and did not learn all this until we were greeted by a guy that had turned back trying to leave New Years day...continuing on, we found them still stuck, no progress, except they had moved the second motorhome back enough to let narrow 4wd vehicles around them...2wd did not make it...so, we were the second vehicle to slip by, which was approx 11am New Years Day...so they had the exit blocked for almost an entire day!

We did check with them and they had a "rescue" underway. As we left on 190, we did see a tow truck on several other vehicles that appeared to be the rescue team. I imagine it took them at least several hours and hundreds of dollars, if not over a thousand to get those rigs up that hill...

I am sharing this, I suppose, because I want to know the REST OF THE STORY..that is, what happened? Did anyone else encounter this episode of stupidity?

Also, I think I am sharing this is hopes others won't be as totally er, ah..how can I politely say...??? non-thoughtful?? re, ah..Stupid???

They knew the route...the slippery slope..and still left in the afternoon??? Just to consider taking these vehicles out there exceeds common sanity...

I guess that is about it...anyone knowing more, I would like to find out...I also have some pics of them above the hot springs if I can figure out how to get them posted here...I did not take have the presence to take pictures at the blockage...

Again..had a nice visit...longer via the south route, but do-able...wish it was warmer, and please DON'T BRING YOUR 40 FOOT MOTORHOME when you come!!!
