I'd forgotten that you don't have much storage in the D-90. When I'm thinking that with trailer towing MPG sucks I should say off-road mpg sucks, not so much on hard trails but more on up hill sand washes and crawling over rocks. And getting stuck with a trailer in soft sand is not fun. We some times drive 3000 miles to and from an off-roading destination (like Moab) and we average about 20MPH faster by not having the trailer. At 20 MPH faster for each 3 hours we drive we end up spending a full hour less on the road ---(and a full hour more off-roading). One other funny thought, when stored in the vehicle, attached, used lamp mantles last for years but in the trailer they seem to have a quick death no matter how well they are packed. If there is no other way to make it work by all means try a trailer but the drawbacks are substantial. I like the take less stuff plan (and reprovision).
