I use a Garmin eMap, which I chose based on the combination of price, screen size and resolution, expandable memory, and external antenna. I agree with Randy that an external antenna is pretty essential. I use it with a laptop running Topo.

I also have a Rino 120, which is pretty neat being able to see everyone else on the map ... when that feature works. Which it often doesn't, because you're stuck trying to transmit low-power FRS from within the Faraday cage of your truck. Plus the Rino is really underpowered in the GMRS band.

OK, straying from the original topic, but ... for good FRS, I recommend the (unfortunately discontinued) Radio Shack model that puts the antenna (and radio guts) up on the roof, with just the mic and controls inside. A very creative solution to the FCC's no-external-antenna rule for FRS. You can find those units on eBay.
