I really don't think Cal Trand was sitting around sipping tea. My guess is that they were running there butt's off attempting to do the best they can with the resources they had. Also the idea of "predicting" the and travel of a thunderstorm cell is less than an exact science. I have been chased off peaks in the Sierras after starting a climb on a clear blue day and hours later am caught in a downpour, should I sue the NPS because they failed to inform me I might be caught in as storm that day or Cal Trans for not blocking the road to Whitney Portal because of the potential threat of a storm. I don't pay taxes so the govt. can protect me from myself, I pay taxes so the govt. can keep roads and wild spaces open to me and others so we can get out and see the awsome power of a thunderstorm or get chased off a mountain by a freak storm or raft a wild river, ski the backcountry. If it was really the job of the govt. to protect us I would not be able to do any of the things I just mentioned because they are all inherintly dangerous. What fun is life if you can't stick your neck out once in a while? Just be prepared to get bit every once in awhile. Please excuse the spelling errors.
