Miscellaneous Information

Miscellaneous Information:

Randy Banis is the editor of DeathValley.com and a resident of Leona Valley, located on the edge of the West Mojave desert.
In August 2008 Randy was appointed by Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to represent the public-at-large on the Desert District Advisory Council (DAC) for the Bureau of Land Management. He was reappointed in 2011 by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. Randy served three terms as chairman in his six years on the Council.
Randy is a member of California's DRECP Stakeholder Group (Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan) representing the public's recreation interests among energy developers, environmentalists and local, state and federal agencies.
Randy also chairs the Public Lands Roundtable of Ridgecrest, and is a member of the BLM's Dumont Dunes subgroup. He also worked on the BLM's West Mojave Plan route survey team in 2001-02.
He is a life member of both the Death Valley '49ers and the Death Valley Natural History Association, a member of the Friends of Jawbone and the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert, and is also past President and a honorary life member of the Southern California Land Rover club.
Of most interest to Randy is the greater Death Valley region, particularly areas with historic & geologic ties to Death Valley itself. Though a vocal land use advocate, Randy is growing increasingly concerned with the health of the desert's environment and the growing impacts of humans. Randy supports the principles of "Tread Lightly," "Leave No Trace," and other responsible land use education programs.
Randy is the founder and owner of Sundance MediaCom, a digital production and data management firm located in Lancaster, California. Since 1995 Sundance MediaCom has partnered on projects with the Washington Post, Scholastic, Inc., the American Museum of Natural History, Lectorum, Inc., General Atlantic Partners, and numerous nongovernmental organizations that partner with the Bureau of Land Management.
