Probably the best information concerning Simpson is in Richard Lingenfelter's book "Death Valley and the Amargosa." Your local library will have it; now available in paperback.
At the history conference, Russ Journigan (yes of the Journigan Mill Site in Emigrant Canyon) is giving two papers and on the Sunday field trip, he will take us to the mill site and up to Skidoo. His father was the last owner of Skidoo.
